Next-generation SCSI spec unveiled-September 14, 1998
The next generation of SCSI, the venerable communications technology extant since the 1970s, was announced Monday at a press conference attended by representatives from Adaptec, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, LSI Logic, Mylex, QLogic, and Quantum. To be called Ultra160/m SCSI, the technology, which has thus far survived the onslaught of Fibre Channel, adds features and functions to the currently defined Ultra3 SCSI protocol, which was adopted in July.

It's the Walkman meets the Internet. On Monday, multimedia hardware maker Diamond Multimedia Inc. is expected to release a portable Walkman-type device to play music files downloaded from the Internet.
